This old-fashioned applesauce pie is easy to make with pantry staples and a store-bought pie shell. A creamy, spiced, nostalgic dessert.

Total Time1 hour hr 20 minutes mins
- ½ cup sugar 100g
- 3 large eggs slightly beaten
- 2 cups unsweetened apple sauce 16 oz.
- ½ cup melted butter
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoon milk
- 5 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1-9 inch unbaked deep dish pie shell I used Tenderflake
Preheat oven to 350℉ (180℃).
In a large bowl, whisk together sugar and eggs.
Add remaining ingredients and whisk together to blend.
Gently poke the frozen pie shell all over with a fork.
Spoon the mixture into the pie shell.
Bake for 1 hour or until the pie is firm and the crust is golden brown. If the pie isn't fully set, bake for up to 10 minutes longer.
Cool before serving.
Serve warm with ice cream or cold right out of the fridge.
Use unsweetened applesauce. The recipe has a full cup of sugar, so sweetened applesauce would make the pie too sweet.
Don't skip the lemon juice. It adds a bright, fresh note that really lifts the apple flavour.
The pie will firm up more as it cools, so be patient before slicing.
Keep in the fridge for 2 - 3 days.
