Here comes your new favourite Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Recipe! A quick snack to whip up for lunches, potlucks, and picnics. This is one treat kids of all ages will love!

This Peanut Butter Rice Krispies recipe is loaded with the classic flavour combination of peanut butter and chocolate.  While they are not technically a fall treat, I always think the combination of brown, orange, and yellow Reese’s Pieces are reminiscent of the changing leaves.  No-baking is required, so they’re also a great treat to whip up in a hurry!

This recipe starts in the way more traditional Rice Krispie treats begin with melted butter, marshmallows and the puffed rice cereal.  You’ll stir in a good dollop of peanut butter to give it a good peanutty base. Hidden in the middle of the treats are thin Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and then the whole thing is topped with a chocolate and peanut butter glaze and finally sprinkled with Reese’s Pieces.

To say that these squares are big on flavour is an understatement.  A small piece is enough to satisfy, if you can stop at just one!

What to Expect from this Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Recipe

    • A peanutty rice cereal base that isn’t overly sweet
    • A thin layer of peanut butter cups in the middle
    • A soft chocolate and peanut butter glaze with crunchy Reese’s Pieces sprinkled on top
    • Easily transportable which makes them ideal for lunches, potlucks, and bake sales

What You’ll Need to Make this Recipe

    • 8” x 12” rectangular cake pan
    • Rice Krispies (or other crispy rice cereal)
    • butter
    • marshmallows
    • salt
    • peanut butter
    • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (thin if you can find them)
    • Chocolate (milk and dark make a good combination)
    • Reese’s Pieces

How to Make Peanut Butter Rice Krispies

Spray your pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper.  The marshmallows are sticky and you want too make sure you can get everything out the pan.

Put the butter in a large pot and melt it over medium-low heat.  Add your marshmallows, peanut butter and salt and continue to stir until everything is melted.  Make sure you continue to stir as everything will melt quite quickly and you don’t want the marshmallows to catch and burn.

Moving quickly now, add the Rice Krispies to the pot and stir everything together with either a metal spoon or a rubber spatula.  Everything tends to stick to a wooden spoon.

Once the cereal is coated, tips half of the mixture into your prepared pan and press it down evenly.  Next, you’ll layer your peanut butter cups over the top.  Finally, tip in the remaining cereal mixture and press down again to cover the entire pan.

To make the glazed topping, melt chocolate and peanut butter together, ( I used a combination of milk and dark bar chocolate), slowly in the microwave at 50% power in 20 second bursts.  Make sure to stir the chocolate and peanut butter thoroughly after each burst.  In my microwave, it took about 1 minute in total to melt everything.  Pour the melted topping evenly over the Rice Krispie peanut butter squares and top with the Reese’s Pieces.

To finish, you’ll chill the treats in the fridge for 30 minutes to let the glaze set.
